North America: Morrison & Foerster, an international law firm with HQ at San Francisco, California, United States has recently announced that it will be laying off 4% of its U.S. staff.
In addition to the U.S. staff, the UK staff is also undergoing the “redundancy consultation review”. According to recent sources, it was reported that the firm may shed “a handful” of staff positions in the U.K. as well which will amount to a loss of approximately 38 employees.
According to the statement given to the spokesperson of Bloomberg, “To position the Firm for continued success, we regularly evaluate our staffing model in light of technology advances, demand for services, and the needs of the business, and make adjustments accordingly”.
The firm further added, “As part of this process, it became obvious that the fundamental changes we have experienced over the past year will outlast the pandemic, and that we needed to adapt, investing in those roles that best serve our clients’ emerging needs.”
Morrison & Foerster is among the long list of big firms who have decided to layoff employees due to the pandemic in both the US and UK.
